Nearly half a million students across the UK are invited to take part in the National Student Survey (NSS) starting from 8 January until 30 April 2024 for final year undergraduates. 

The NSS is your opportunity to give your honest feedback about what it has been like to study on your course at your university. It is published every year and is a rich and influential source of information about higher education. The survey is a key component of the quality assurance and wider regulatory landscape in UK higher education. 

As final-year students, your collective voice holds significant power in shaping the future of your course and institution for both current and prospective students. 

Your opinions can be used to help make changes that will improve the learning experience. More widely, the NSS provides important information for the four UK higher education regulatory and funding bodies – the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW), the Department for Economy Northern Ireland (DfENI), and the Scottish Funding Council (SFC). 

The survey is completed by final-year students at: 

• All publicly funded Higher Education universities and colleges in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland 

• Further education colleges in England and Northern Ireland 

• Further education institutions (FEIs) in Wales (with directly funded higher education students) 

Your perspectives carry the potential to drive positive changes and enhance the overall learning experience. On a broader scale, the National Student Survey (NSS) offers crucial insights for the four regulatory and funding bodies overseeing higher education in the UK – namely, the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW), the Department for Economy Northern Ireland (DfENI), and the Scottish Funding Council (SFC). 

Ultimately,  the higher the response rate, the greater the likelihood of course-level data being made publicly available to these students. 

How has the NSS benefitted KCLSU? 

• Students felt that safety on campus should be a priority. KCLSU’s Stop the Music Campaign worked to increase safety measures at Guy’s Bar Sports Nights. 

• Students asked for more investment in campuses. KCLSU opened a new hub at Denmark Hill Campus, offering support, recreation, and relaxation. 

• Students asked for KCLSU to respond to the cost-of-living crisis. KCLSU introduced a range of?offers and discounts?available across KCLSU food outlets.
