KCL Athletics and Cross Country Club to have co-resident status of Southwark Park Athletics Track
King's and Southwark Council have confirmed the club will have co-resident status of Southwark Park Athletics Track.
A multi-million pound refurbishment project is underway and the track is planned to open late summer 2015.
King's will share the track with their new partners, London City Athletics Club [LCAC].
The upgrade of the track will be delivered in two phases:
1) Refurbishment of the track and infield
2) Refurbishment of the athletics building
Phase 1 will see a brand new six lane track laid down with a grassed central area. The plans allow for a full range of athletics activities to be delivered.
In phase 2, the current athletics building will be totally transformed from the inside-out. The building will include 4 changing rooms (2 athletics, 2 football), and officials changing room, external lockers, physio/consultation room, free weights gym, externally accessible toilets, club room and refreshment facility.
Developers are aiming for the track to reach UKA track certification grade B and envisage a top class training and competition venue. Securing a new permanent home has been a crucial step in the clubs development plan. Along with the partnership with LCAC, the club will be able to offer a full range of athletics coaching from September 2015.
